Welcome to South Funk Studio, owned and operated by Katie Esselburn and established for music education in 2021.

I have always had a passion for music, especially for piano performance, accompaniment, and for the pure joy and satisfaction of playing for myself, friends, and family. Music is a lifelong companion, and for anyone seeking to grow musically, lessons can help you achieve your goals and enrich your own abilities.

It’s important for me as a teacher to learn about each student, and to tailor their learning experience to help them grow in their passion for music; music is an expression of ourselves as a person, an exploration of feeling and emotion, or seeking an undiscovered harmony. The student comes first; then we can explore the technicalities and nuances of music and playing. Learning to play by ear, functional piano skills, and music theory are part of the curriculum. What is beautiful about learning any instrument and working to achieve any level of musicianship, is that the student can take lessons of perseverance, patience, appreciation for beauty and expression, persistence, and apply it to the rest of their lives.
